Often referred to as “root cause medicine”, Functional Medicine is a systems biology-based approach to health that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Instead of stacking medications to manage symptoms on a superficial level, functional medicine looks to establish health in the body on a cellular level.
As a holistic, patient-centered, science-based, and collaborative approach to healthcare it looks at the origins and underlying causes of illness and symptoms. A Functional medicine practitioner deals directly with the underlying cause of a health issue and treats each patient as a whole, unique individual. Functional Medicine emphasizes on empowerment! Yes, testing, diagnosis and labs are important, but at the end of the day it's YOU who holds the key to your health. You have SO much power and influence over your body. Even today, you're already making hundreds of choices on how to move your body, what to eat, mindset, attitude, beliefs, relationships, stress management, relaxation...it goes on and on.
The Functional Medicine approach applied to health coaching focuses on the modifiable lifestyle factors: the things YOU can do to take control of your health.
Sleep & Relaxation, Movement/Exercise, Nutrition,
Relationships, Stress Managements are the 5 major aspects of Lifestyle in Functional Medicine.
My wellness coaching viewpoint expands on the 5 Functional Medicine Lifestyle Components to also include Mental, Emotional & Spiritual Influences as well as Mindset: Attitudes & Beliefs.
This is what make my coach approach unique! With MA Degrees in Counseling & Theology, I view mental and emotional health and spirituality as equally vital to physical health!
